modern relationships

I have this stack of emails from friends I don't get to see or speak with often and from colleagues wishing to have coffee, just sitting in my inbox.

I don't feel an urgent desire to respond. These accumulate until suddenly I answer them all late at night, before curling up with a cat. Do you do this too?

I have come to notice of late that I am much more comfortable commmunicating electronically.

Long gone are my teenage days of spending hours on the phone, rambling about everyshred of gossip to be had.

Now it is all done via instant messaging or more brief and direct communication happens through email.

Despite my knowledge and criticism of using the internet for important communications I find myself desperately fighting off the preference.

I recognise that I am beginning to embrace the exact thing about the internet that I originally mistrusted. Its anonimity.

Once I found this distressing, now I find comfort in it. I think I have become lazy...facing people directly and dealing with their emotions and allowing them to see yours is hard work.

Hmmm did this answer your question? Maybe not, but I too have been thinking about my internet use, just maybe thinking a different thought ;)
